STOP: Do Not Delete Your Old eSIM!
Never delete an eSIM from your old phone until the new one is 100% working.eSIM QR codes are often "One-Time Use." If you delete it from Phone A before it works on Phone B, you might lose your data plan forever.
Can I Transfer My eSIM? (Read First)
The answer depends on who sold you the eSIM. Travel data plans work differently than monthly carrier plans.
Mobile Carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone)
Post-paid monthly plans can usually be transferred using "iPhone Quick Transfer" or by calling your carrier.
Travel eSIMs (Ovosim, Prepaid)
Most travel eSIMs are tied to the first device ID (IMEI) they are installed on. You usually cannot move an active data package to a new phone.
How to Transfer on iPhone (iOS 17+)
The "Quick Transfer" Method
If both iPhones are on iOS 16 or later, you can try Bluetooth transfer. Note: This mostly works for major carriers, not always prepaid travel eSIMs.
- Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on the NEW iPhone.
- Select "Transfer from Nearby iPhone".
- Bring your OLD iPhone close (ensure Bluetooth is ON).
- Follow the prompt on the OLD iPhone to confirm the transfer.
- Wait for the activation code to verify.
How to Transfer on Android
Samsung Devices
Use the "Transfer SIM from another device" tool in Settings.
- Both phones must be Samsung Galaxy (One UI 5.1+).
- Requires a secure screen lock to be set.
Google Pixel
Use the Google eSIM Transfer tool during setup.
- Works best during initial phone setup.
- Mostly supports T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom currently.
"Help! The Transfer Failed"
What if I can't transfer my Ovosim plan?
If you bought a travel plan and switched phones mid-trip, the eSIM typically cannot be moved because it is locked to the original device for security.
Option 1: Re-scan the QR Code
Check your email. Try scanning the original QR code on the new phone. (Only works if the provider allows multi-install).
Option 2: Contact Support
Email us immediately. We can sometimes "release" the eSIM from the old device or issue a replacement.
