The VoIP Restriction Reality

The UAE regulates VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services to protect the revenues of Etisalat (e&) and Du — the country's two licensed telecoms. WhatsApp Calls, FaceTime Audio/Video, Skype, Zoom voice calls, and similar services are technically restricted. In practice: hotel WiFi almost always blocks VoIP completely. Desert Safari Coverage

Dubai's desert safari experiences (dune bashing, camel rides, Bedouin camps) typically take place in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve and the Al Lahbab (Big Red) dune area. The deeper desert in the direction of the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) is beyond network coverage, but standard tourist safari experiences stay within range.

The Dubai Frame and Tourist Attraction Coverage

Sharjah and Northern Emirates

Sharjah (the cultural emirate, 15 minutes from Dubai) is fully covered by Etisalat. The Sharjah Art Museum, Heart of Sharjah heritage area, and Al Noor Island all have strong signal. Ras Al Khaimah (increasingly popular for adventure tourism and the world's longest zipline at Jebel Jais) has Etisalat 4G in the main areas.
