Error "Cellular Plans From This Carrier Cannot be Added"

After activating your eSIM via QR code or manual activation code, you may see the following error:

Cellular Plans From This Carrier Cannot Be Added

This error means your device is carrier locked and cannot install eSIM plans from other carriers. This is a restriction set by your phone's original carrier — not an issue with OVOSIM.


Check if your device is locked

You can verify your lock status directly in iPhone Settings:

  1. Go to Settings → General → About
  2. Scroll down to the Carrier Lock field
  3. If it says "No SIM restrictions" — your device is unlocked and compatible with OVOSIM
  4. If it shows anything else — your device is carrier locked

Solution

Contact your home carrier to request an unlock. Most carriers can unlock your device over-the-air without you needing to visit a store:

  • Call your carrier's customer service number
  • Use your carrier's live chat or online support portal
  • Visit a carrier store in person

Once your device is unlocked, you can install your OVOSIM eSIM normally. Your QR code will still be valid — contact our support team if you need it reissued.

Note: iPhones purchased directly from Apple are typically unlocked by default. Devices purchased through a carrier on a contract plan are often locked until the contract ends or you request an unlock. This error is identical in cause to the Unsupported eSIM error — both indicate a locked device.
