Error "Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change"

OVOSIM Support Team · Updated May 2026

When activating an eSIM via QR code or manual activation code, you may see the following error on your iPhone:

Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change

"Your cellular plan could not be set up. Try again later."

This error means your device is compatible with the eSIM, but there was a problem connecting to the eSIM activation server to verify the plan. It does not mean your plan is invalid.

Common Causes and Solutions

1. No internet connection

An internet connection is required to install an eSIM. The activation process needs to reach the eSIM server to verify and download your plan.

Before trying again, confirm your device can access the internet — open Safari or Chrome and try loading a website. If you don't have a working connection, connect to Wi-Fi first and then retry the eSIM installation.

2. The eSIM is already installed

In many cases, the eSIM was already installed in the background before the error appeared. Each OVOSIM activation code can be used up to 3 times on one device only.

Check if the eSIM is already on your phone:

  1. Go to Settings → Cellular
  2. Scroll down and look under SIMs for your OVOSIM plan
  3. If it appears there, the eSIM is installed and ready to use — no further action needed

eSIM found in Settings?

If you can see the OVOSIM plan in your Cellular settings, it is installed correctly and will connect automatically when you arrive in your destination country.

3. Too many eSIMs installed

iPhones have a limit on how many eSIM profiles can be stored at once. If you have installed multiple eSIMs previously, try removing one you no longer need and then retry the installation.

To delete an old eSIM: Settings → Cellular → tap the old eSIM plan → Delete eSIM. See our full guide: How to permanently delete an eSIM from your device.
